Meet the 2022 Rearden Foundation Scholarship Recipients

Bella Hobaugh

Bella graduated from Ridgeview Classical Schools in 2022 as the salutatorian of her class, with a 3.98 GPA. She was named Student of the Term for her final trimester at Ridgeview, and was honored with the High School History Award. Among her other accolades are the 2021 Ridgeview High School Spanish Award, the Rensselaer Medal, the American Chemical Society Medal, and the title of National Merit Finalist.

Bella has also been involved in numerous extracurricular activities: She was an expert witness and attorney for her school’s Mock Trial team, played the Queen in the Ridgeview Madrigals performance her senior year, and has sung in several choirs. She has also studied cello for more than thirteen years, and has performed both as a soloist and with several youth orchestras. Bella acted as a leader of the student body through the Ridgeview Student Council, serving as both Parliamentarian and Historian. Under the auspices of the Ridgeview Student Ambassador program, she founded and coordinated a program through which high school volunteers serve as tutors for elementary school students.

Bella currently attends the University of Chicago, and study Chemistry or Neuroscience. She hopes to pursue a medical career.

Ryan Anderson

Ryan graduated from Liberty Common High School in 2022 as salutatorian with a 4.53 GPA. As a senior, he received the “Etiam Nunc” award as a result of embodying his class motto through his actions. Throughout his high school tenure, he had the privilege of receiving several other honors including Student Government Leader, National Honor Society, the Leonhard Euler Math Award, and the Outstanding Spanish Student honor. 

He has been extremely involved in various extracurricular activities. He lettered all four years of high school in both soccer and basketball, acting as the captain of the soccer team in his senior year and of the basketball team in both his junior and senior years. He received All-Conference honors in both sports in his senior year. He has played the clarinet since 6th grade and received the most Outstanding Concert Band Member award in his senior year. He was also accepted into the All-State, Northern Colorado, and Patriot League Honor Bands every year from sophomore to senior year. 

Ryan is now currently attending the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and is studying Computer Science with a minor in Business. He hopes to work for a tech company for a few years after college, followed by owning a tech startup.

Law Schoeman

Law graduated from Golden View Classical Academy with a 3.93 GPA. He was nominated for Outstanding Graduate by his peers and for President for the National Honor Society by the faculty at Golden View. His senior thesis was nominated for Outstanding Thesis by the GVCA faculty and filmed for the Barney Charter School initiative .

Law was awarded Student of the Quarter, the Rensselaer Medal, and the mathematics and history subject awards. Outside of academics, Law was honored with the Excellence in Service award for his time as a Team Leader working at Chick-Fil-A, lettered in varsity basketball and tennis, and served as a basketball coach and camp leader for his school.

He is now attending Hillsdale College and is planning to double-major in mathematics and history. His career interests are in defense technology development and application, or weapons and intelligence programs and operations.
